Episode highlight

In this episode, Michal shares her incredible journey from experiencing “soul diminishing” during her childhood to becoming a pioneer of healing and empowerment with her “Soulful Healer” method.

Michal candidly reveals how her experiences growing up in Israel, navigating cultural shocks, and surviving personal traumas like wars and multiple pregnancy losses shaped her career in trauma healing. She emphasizes the importance of combining somatic, soul, and expanded processes beyond traditional talk therapy to achieve personal growth and resilience.

Michal’s philosophy of healing is profoundly influenced by her own life challenges and the spiritual communities she has engaged with over the years. Her personal history, heavily influenced by her family’s Holocaust trauma, illustrates how she channelled hardship into a powerful practice.

Over the past two decades, she has trained over 3,000 individuals in Reiki, demonstrating her commitment to fostering transformation and healing. Her dedication to empowering individuals, especially women and healing professionals, is further elaborated in her new book, Becoming Soulful, now available on Amazon.

Takeaways

Childhood Incidents:

Expressing Emotions:

Growing up, Michal recalls living in a household where expressing emotions was not allowed. At the age of 9, during a family wedding, she felt unhappy and cried. Her mother became angry because she wasn’t “being a big girl,” and she pinched her under the table as a reminder to smile.

Culture Shock:

At 15, Michal’s father was transferred from Israel to New York, and the family moved with him. She was amazed at the tall buildings compared to those in Israel. The culture shock was overwhelming but eventually opened her up to traveling the world.

Personal Loss:

When Michal got married, she endured six miscarriages, an experience that deeply influenced her journey into trauma healing.

Influential Groups:

Growing up in Israel instilled resilience in Michal. The warmth and hospitality of the society gave her strength and courage to face obstacles.

Later in life, longing for connection, she joined various spiritual and meditation communities. She studied color healing in England while living in Germany, where she also explored different forms of meditation. In the U.S., she joined inner work and personal growth communities. These experiences helped her reconnect with herself and embrace the inner work that eventually became her life’s mission.

Temperament and Personality:

Michal describes herself as a natural giver, a trait she inherited from her father, who was always taking care of others. Since childhood, Michal has had a natural ability to feel and express compassion, kindness, and empathy.

Over the years, she has learned the importance of setting boundaries and taking care of herself while supporting others.

Cultural Epiphanies:

Life in Germany:

When Michal and her husband moved to Germany, she was surprised by how Europeans enjoyed life, such as leaving work at 5 PM to have a beer.

Traveling to India:

Before having children, Michal and her husband traveled to India. She was deeply moved by how happy and satisfied people were despite their difficult circumstances, including poverty.

What Brings out the Best in Michal?

For Michal to thrive, she needs opportunities and openness to help people align with their values.

Soapbox Moment

Michal invites us to join a 90-minute session with her to embark on a Journey into the Soul and receive internal guidance. She also encourages readers to explore her book and dive into the six keys for profound transformation.

Extro:

In our interview, Michal Spiegelman recounted a childhood where holocaust survival darkened and traumatized many of her early memories. One that stood out for me was the image of her mother pinching her to stop crying while telling her to put on a smile. From a background of personal pain, Mical transformed her suffering into healing for herself and others through traveling, social work and coaching. Her organization “Beacons of Change”, and her “Soulful Healing Method” help women and healing professionals connect with their soul to shine like beacons in their personal and professional lives.

Here are some of my takeaways from our interview:

  1. Even if your childhood experiences are painful, as an adult you can heal by reconnecting to your body, emotions and soul.
  2. Travel and living in a different country can significantly impact your cultural and spiritual journey.
  3. Your leadership style can be found by listening to your own inner promptings
  4. Living spiritually does not mean we us spirituality as a way to escape life. To be authentic we have to live our spirituality in the world.
